Sport Site: Turner Field (Atlanta Braves) Date 11/3/11
Location: Atlanta, GA
Site Contact: Dave (Tour Giude)
Site Facilities: Separately, list and briefly summarize all areas/aspects of the sports site you toured.
- Front of stadium – We had a look round all of the statues of ex-players including such greats like Hank Aaron.
- Museum – The museum was filled with memorabilia such including part of the train they used to travel in showing us how small the beds and seating areas were and there was also an old dugout that we could sit in.
- Walked around the top of the stadium – We got to view the old Fulton County Stadium and where the Olympic stadium was. I was impressed with the diagram on the car park floor showing the outline of the old field.
- Suites – We got to look in the different types of suits in the stadium and got to sit down and experience the view from these high priced seats.
- Media Room – We had a first-hand look at where the media come before the game and we get to look at their routine where they walk in and see the starting line-ups and then take their place in the box.
- Delta 365 – Delta 365 is a private members lounge in which anyone can buy a membership to, you can go in there and get some drinks and snacks and also watch the game from your table. The tour guide recommended buying the $1 tickets and a membership in there.
- Locker Room – In the locker room we got to see their training room that was next door and the size of their locker room. Baseballers are apparently suspicious about having their baseball bat leaning against someone else’s on the team so they have made the locker room round so this never has to happen.
- Dug Outs – Going to the dug outs were very cool and getting to stand where the entire team stands during the game was a good experience.
Career Possibilities: What are potential career paths associated with this sports site? Please list and briefly explain as many as you can identify.
At the end of the tour we were told that they love to hire interns for not just the Atlanta Braves but also the Braves in Rome and Gwinnett. When she was telling us her story she also explained how she used to be an intern and when a position opened up she was the first person they came to as she had a lot of experience in the field already so it would be a great opportunity for us to get one foot in the door. There are such internship placements as, working with the media, working in PR (public relations), working in the museum or even working at the ticket desks.
What are the most significant things you learned from this site visit? What questions arose from this visit?
I would say the most significant things I learnt was the ways that the braves marketed all over the stadium. There were signs for coke everywhere and they also have a level that different companies can use just to market their company during the braves games. At the time of the tour the level was promoting casinos in different states but they made it look like there was a casino in the stadium in order to attract people inside. Another thing I enjoyed learning was just the basic history of the braves, I have never been very in to watching baseball but learning some history about them and learning about previous stars for the team like Hank Aaron it made me want to take time and support them for real.
